Keeping silver bright: a practical care guide

Silver tarnishes — that's chemistry, not poor quality. Sulphur in the air forms silver sulphide on the surface. The fix is easy.

• Wear it often — friction from daily wear keeps tarnish from settling. Silver you wear stays brighter than silver you store.
• Store airtight — zip pouches with an anti-tarnish strip (or a piece of chalk) slow the reaction dramatically.
• Polish gently — a silver cloth restores shine in minutes. For heavy tarnish: line a bowl with foil, add hot water + baking soda, dip for 2-3 minutes.
• Keep away from — perfume, pool chlorine, and rubber bands (vulcanised rubber is sulphur-rich).
